I am a regular Midwestern guy that loves spending time with my family and friends.
Over the past couple of years, I've become more of a family man. My loved ones really make life worth living!
Over the last decade I've become somewhat of a weather geek. I
love storm chasing and spotting. I have also taken an interested in photography and photo editing. Some
of my other interests are hockey, softball, camping, paintball and amateur radio. I also like trivia and am always up
for a game of Pictionary!
Okay, so why Weather Bub? Well, I
am fascinated with weather. And, my sister gave me the nickname Bubba 20+ years
ago. I don’t know why, I’m
not a redneck and I don’t like country music.
Unlike many storm chasers/photographers, there has never been a traumatic weather experience
in my life. If one thing motivated me to become a spotter/chaser, it was March
29, 1998. That was a day when two significant tornadoes struck Minnesota. The first was an F4 that destroyed the town of Comfrey. Then just a short time later, and F3 did major damage to the city of St. Peter. I remember watching the television coverage in amazement. After
all, March is (was) the month that Minnesota typically receives the most snowfall—not tornadoes! So, in early 1999, I
took my first Skywarn class, and have been spotting ever since. Skywarn is also
the reason I received my amateur radio license. My callsign is now WX0BUB (formerly
KC0MIM). In
2001 I made my first actual “chase.” On May 9, 2001, I was on the
tornado that struck a turkey farm just east of Northfield, MN. Later that year
on June 18th, I tried to catch up to the tornado that ripped through the town of Siren, WI. And while I never caught up to that tornado, I did see some terrible damage.
Until recently, I haven’t been very good at documenting my chases. However, over the past few years, I’ve been taking many more pictures and documenting much better. That is really the reason I started this page--I wanted a place to post my pics for others
to see. Is it all about the tornado? No! I love a good lightning show, sunsets, and I love the smell in the air just prior to a rainfall. And while I cannot chase as often as I’d like to (doesn’t work always get in the way?), I thrive
on the challenge and education of it all.
In 2010, I decided to start a new blog for weather
related stuff. Check out the new Rum River Chaser.
Thanks for visiting.
